UP-DATE FROM CREEK-WATER
WELL, I DID IT ... yesterday, for the 2nd time in my life, i got me-self arrested at a demonstration ...
the 1st time was 3 years ago at OCCUPY OAKLAND ...
yesterday approx. 25 of us were arrested in front of the office of FERC, the FEDERAL ENERGY REGULATORY COMMISSION ...
why FERC ?? because they routine-ly approve applications to FRACK, with almost no consideration for the sad + horrible ways that this relative-ly-new OIL + GAS DRILLING-PROCESS affects people who live near-by ...
for example, in MEYERSVILLE,MARYLAND, less-than a week's walk from washington,DC, the town-council voted unanimous-ly to ban fracking, but the federal-gov't, (i.e., FERC), over-ruled the ban, allow-ing fracking-companys to come in + start do-ing their dirty work ...
in my opinion, this is just-simply not fair, to say the least !! i get angry just think-ing about it ...
friends, the fracking-process forces high-ly-pressurized toxic-chemicals down a mile or more, to break-up the SHALE-ROCK down there, allow-ing them to pump-up oil + natural-gas ... they are required-by-law to construct these wells in a way which will prevent them from leak-ing toxic-chemicals in-to the under-ground water (i.e., the "AQUIFER"); but this is, in fact, almost impossible to do: many of the wells start leak-ing immediate-ly, poison-ing near-by well-water, and make-ing life miserable for the people who live near-by ...
one of our local-supporters in YOUNGSTOWN,OHIO described the way they try to prevent leakage as "A HALF-ASS'D CEMENT-JOB" ... so most of these fracking-projects are destined to leak eventual-ly, if not immediate-ly ...
so that was my main motivation to get arrested ...
stay tuned for more NEWS re this, but u will prob'ly not find much in the MAIN-STREAM media (TV + NEWsPAPERs): instead, u need to go to social-media (FACEBOOK, GOOGLE, etc) to learn about what's happen'n .....
