The Fentanyl Hangover of Washington, D.C.

Warmest spiritual greetings, This morning all guests at the Adam's Place Homeless Shelter were required to place their belongings in the assigned lockers, and exit the building by 9 a.m. for a weekly "deep cleaning". This is in line with both Catholic Charities and the Department of Human Services intention to clean up and organize a drug fueled alcohol soaked rough and tumble indoor and outdoor situation. The night club and industrial neighborhood in which the shelter is located is fed up with the constant disturbance from the fighting and loud argumentation around the clock. This is in addition to the fire department's malfunctioning alarm system, which prompts emptying the building without notice, resulting in extreme emotional responses by the guests. This frequently brings in the Metropolitan Police Department to intervene, as well as emergency vehicles both ambulance and fire. The shelter is the last refuge for many who otherwise would be outside "camping". This is a risky situation altogether, with no clear end in sight. At age 76, I am accepting being moved to an interim situation, while pursuing a senior subsidized studio apartment somewhere in central Washington, D.C. My caseworker is Nora Williams at the Adam's Place Homeless Shelter. Thank you very much.
